TIES: The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is rec! ruiting for an Anesthesiologist. The Anesthesiologist will function in the Anesthesiology Service at the Wade Park Medical Center, and will provide coverage at the new Ambulatory Surgery Center located at 9001 Superior Avenue. The position carries an academic appointment at Case Western Reserve University. The Anesthesiologist duties include:

  • Reviewing the history and examines the patient to determine the degree of surgical risk and ascertains the types of pre-anesthetic sedation to be ordered. Selects the anesthetic best adapted to the patient's condition and advises and consults with surgeon regarding the patient's condition and the risks involved.
  • Administering various types of anesthetics ( general anesthesia, centroneuraxial blocks, peripheral nerve blocks, monitored anesthesia care) both for operating room and out-of-OR cases to render patients insensitive to pain during operations and other procedures.
  • Observing patients and monitoring ! equipment for adverse reactions during anesthesia.
  • Extubating patients from anesthesia and completing necessary records of anesthetic administered pre and post-anesthesia medications.
  • Participating in departmental functions such as peer review, journal club and other meetings, postoperative rounds, consultations and procedures for other services.
  • Responding to emergencies.
Tour of Duty: Full-time, Assignment will include rotational on-call coverage.Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • !
  • Completion of first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by! the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
  • Must be board certified or eligible
Preferred Experience:
  • Recent cardiac experience
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram experience
