Patient Care Representative


 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years minimum experience in medical practice.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Management of multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Motivation to succeed.
  • Empathetic personality giving attention to patient’s needs and concerns.
  • Working knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong organization with attention to detail.
  • Respectful treatment of patients and co-workers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Check-in

1. Primary Duties

  • Checks patients in, greeting everyone in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Tracks patients in the reception area and communicates with them, as needed.
  • Evaluates chart data to verify all information has been received, completed, and signatures obtained.
    • Insurance cards
    • Identification
    • Consents
  • Photocopies patient’s insurance card and identification.
  • Ensures that proper authorization or referral is collected from the patient.
  • Assists patients in obtaining authorization or referrals that have not been received by the practice.
  • Enters all new patient demographic information into the computer.
  • Places charts in bins for specific physicians or technicians.
  • Marks the arrival time of patients in the office and makes sure that patients are seen on time.

2. Secondary Duties

Handles check-out station/appointment station as needed (especially during lunch hours). If scheduled for any of the other stations, performs the duties that go with that station.

3. Clerical

  • Places telephone calls to no-show appointments; reschedules as needed.
  • Provides support on telephones and schedules appointments.
  • Inspects the reception room for neatness.
  • Prepares charts/superbills for next day appointments.
  • Assists other front office personnel as needed.
  • Makes calls to patients on the recall list and schedules appointments accordingly.
  • Performs other duties as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Primary Duties

  • Presents and collects fees, posts charges and payments,and makes future appointments.
  • Completes daily balancing duties for the billing department.
  • Counts and maintains cash drawer daily.
  • Keys tickets for all patients seen the same day.
  • Backs-up phones.
  • Stocks and keeps check out area and work area clean.
  • Backs up check-in with benefit and chart prep.

2. Secondary Duties
