Job Summary
Summary
The post anesthesia nurse cares for pedicatric, adult, and elderly patients following ambulatory surgery and more invasive/ extensive surgery requiring inpatient hospitalization. The PACU nurse integrates knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and nursing process in caring for patients of every known specialty. The goal of the PACU nurse is to coordinate patient care provided by health team members utilizing interpersonal and teamwork skills to provide optimal patient care to the post surgical patient and serve as their advocate..
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs patient assessment and care planning, considering the patient's age group, severity of condition/disease.
Plans and implements the plan of care with input from the patient/family and other members of the healthcare team.
Formulates a goal directed plan of care which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes.
Protects patients from injuries, implements care in a safe, knowledegeable, and continuous skillful manner.
Implements care in a safe, knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner.
Knowledgeable in types of anesthestic agents, their actions/adverse reactions, and complicating side effects.
Follows physician/anesthesiologists orders promptly and accurately.
Expertise in airway management of patients in all age groups.
Expertise in the use of biomedical equipment including; CPM, Hot/Ice, Bair Hugger, Ortho-Pat, Epidural/PCA pumps, Ventilators, and Fluid Warmers.
Expertise in the management of a variety of immediate post operative surgical patient emergencies (poor perfusion, ventilation, hemmorage).
Evaluates effectiveness of care given by healthcare team members.
Recognizes changes in monitors and patient's condition and is able to revise plan of care based on findings and ongoing patients assessment
Adheres to the safety policies and procedures of the organization.
Recognizes and reports potential safety issues.
Skillfull with invasive/noninvasive procedures and surgical patient treatments.
Maintains confidentiality and actively support patient/family rights.
Supports and contributes to organizational cost-saving initiatives.
Serves as patient advocate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ablity to be flexiable with work hours shifts, and provide call coverage.

Qualifications - Minimum
Qualifications

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Licenses
Must have current valid licensure in the State of Ohio
Education and/or Experience
Education: Associate with Bachelors preferred
Years of Experience: 1-3
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
One year of Critical Care preferred.
Basic Life Support Provider required
Coronary Care Classes preferred
Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support Provider preferred
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider preferred
CPAN certification preferred.
One to two years of Medical-Surgical Nursing preferred, or experience in specialty.
Member of a professional organization prefered.
Hours
Hours per pay period: 48
Hours: 11:00am-11:30pm
Holidays rotating
night/ weekend on call expected
