The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a Medical Instrument Technician (Anesthesia). The Medical Instrument Technician (Anesthesia) will function in Anesthesiology Service. The Medical Instrument Technician (Anesthesia) duties include:
Providing assistance to anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (CRNA) during anesthesia procedures.
Connecting, operating and troubleshooting invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment (e.g. arterial pressure monitors), anesthesia machines, intubation bronchoscopes, blood gas analyzers, patient record systems (CompuRecord/PICIS/etc.), peripheral nerve stimulators and ultra-sonic scanning devices.
Preparing and administering medication as directed by the attending physician.
Performing room turnovers; cleaning monitors, anesthesia machine an! d carts.
Preparing room setup for next cases for all complexity of surgical cases.
Maintaining anesthesia workroom in an orderly fashion.
Utilizing principles of sterilization when disinfecting equipment and handling supplies used by the Anesthesia Service.
Conferring and collaborating with lead technicians, CRNAs and attending physicians on more difficult issues.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Requirements
Citizenship : Citizenship of the United States.
Licensure or Certification : Licensure or Certification is not required for this occupation; however, it is desirable at the GS-6 or above as evidence of possession of the essential knowledge, skills and abilities.
English Proficiency : Medical Instrument Technicians must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with Title 38 of the United States Code! .
Grade Requirements

To qualify at the GS-6 level: Experience : At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics related to the duties of the positions to be filled. This would be experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to aid anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in anesthetic procedures , laryngeal mask anesthesia and monitoring anesthesia care under close supervision.

To qualify at the GS-7 level:
Experience : At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics related to the duties of the positions to be filled. This would be experience which demonstrates the knowledge skills and abilities to assist anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in routine anesthetic procedures under general supervision and connecting and operating non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring! equipment, blood and fluid warmers (e.g. Hot Line and Ranger) and patient warming devices (e.g., Bair Hugger).

To qualify at the GS-8 level:
Experience : At least 1 year experience comparable to the next lower grade level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics related to the duties of the positions to be filled. This would be experience which demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities to assist anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in difficult anesthetic procedures under minimal supervision, connecting and operating invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment (e.g. arterial pressure monitors), anesthesia machines, ventilators, intubation bronchoscopes, and ultrasonic scanning devices, preparing and administering medications as directed by the attending physician assisting and mentoring and training lower graded technicians, nurses, medical students and anesthesia residents on anesthesia technology proced! ures.
Preferred Certification : Basic Life Support certifica! tion is desirable. Training which does not result in official certification does not meet this definition.

Knowledge! and understanding of arterial pressure line wave forms including the ability to recognize and distinguish normal from abnormal, artifact from abnormality and forewarn the physician or anesthetist of an impending life-threatening situation.
