The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA). The CRNA will function in the Anesthesiology Service to include rotation at the new Surgery Center located at E. 90th and Superior. The CRNA duties include:
Working! in conjunction with Anesthesiologists and manage the anesthetic care o! f patients in the operating rooms and non-OR procedure rooms and areas.
Performing preoperative review of patients' records, interviewing patients about their anesthesia and relevant medical history, and explaining the planned method of anesthesia to patients.
Preparing patients for anesthesia by checking the anesthesia machine and suction, preparing airway and intubation equipment, reviewing medical records for completeness of patient preparation, starting IV catheters and infusions, applying monitors, having available all appropriate anesthesia drugs, performing arterial punctures, etc.
Administering anesthetic drugs including IV and inhalation induction agents, muscle relaxants, narcotics, inhalation agents, etc.; managing patient airways; monitoring vital signs; performing redosing of continuous regional anesthetics; and terminating anesthesia at the end of procedure.
Accompanying patient to the recovery area, extubating patients who are awake, oriented ! and demonstrating adequate respiratory function.
Assisting recovery area nurses in caring for patients who develop respiratory distress, cardiac arrest, shock and other post-operative conditions.
Functioning as part of the cardiac arrest team.
Accepting assignments in the preoperative clinic.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position will be a flexible tour, consisting of four (4) 10-hour shifts or five (5) 8-hour shifts. On-call duty is required for this position. On-call will be twice per week.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements:
Citizen of the United States.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by of of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the app! licant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) ! or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Certified by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (CCNA).
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent experience in cardiac anesthesia.
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.
