General
Summary
This
practitioner will provide patient care under supervision of
attending physician(s) and anesthesiologist(s). The Nurse
Practitioner will perform and document the complete physical
examination in a timely manner to safely and efficiently
prepare patients for surgical procedures. Preoperatively,
elicits, records, and interprets and/or reviews a complete
health history and notes its significance for the care of the
patient. Performs a complete standard physical examination,
and distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings.
Educates patients/families about the surgical experience.
In
addition, the practitioner will see patients in the Pre
Admission Testing (PAT department) to perform a complete
history and physical examination on patients for upcoming
elective surgical procedures. The APN may select and order
tests and procedures necessary to! augment physical findings,
and distinguish between normal! & abnormal findings in
collaboration with the anesthesiologist. In the PAT setting,
the APN may initiate consults to other services under the
direction of the attending anesthesiologist and or the
collaborating physician. The APN will also help with
coverage as needed/desired for the Inpatient Acute Pain
Treatment Service. This service provides pain management for
inpatients with acute pain needs in collaborate with the
anesthesiologist.
Nurse
Practitioner will provide education for nursing and other
patient care staff related to history and physical
examinations and general preparation of the surgical patient.
He/she will also serve as a resource for nurses and house
staff. Maintains clinical competency, participates in yearly
advanced skills recertification, and stays informed of current
trends in their specialty and nursing practice. Remains
informed of current research and practice specific to the!
preparatory care of patients undergoing surgical and
anesthetic procedures, making this information available to
nursing staff and applying it as appropriate to clinical
practice. Identifies patient problems suitable for research,
and cooperates with research activities. Assist with
collection of continuous quality improvement data related to
perioperative patient care.
MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS
MS in
Nursing with current Ohio licensure (or ability to obtain
transfer); satisfactory completion of a PNP or FNP program;
prefer Acute Care Program certification; Certificate of
Authority to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the
State of Ohio. Prefer 3-5 years of pediatric and/or
perioperative experience. Must possess excellent leadership,
interpersonal skills with an advanced level of critical
thinking and decision making abilities. Must enjoy working
with a diverse patient population. Will ! be required to pass
Pediatric Dosage Calculation Test post offer an! d pre-hire.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to see,
hear, stand, walk, speak, read and perform manual tasks with
or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little
or no difficulty.
Must be able to
independently lift up to 25lbs.
Must be able to move
or reposition patients of any weight or size with the
assistance of another person(s) and /or equipment.
