The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is an advanced practice nurse that works in collaboration with the surgical team, providing and utilizing a variety of anesthetics for! medical and surgical procedures. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist cares for the patient during the course of the anesthetic including preoperative assessment, administration and maintenance, and recovery.

Responsibilities:
A. Anesthetic Management

The CRNA performs a preoperative assessment/chart review of the patient to formulate an anesthetic plan according to the individual needs of the patient.

The CRNA responds appropriately to any significant physiological, anesthesia changes and treats accordingly, informing the staff anesthesiologist when appropriate.

The CRNA provides for optimum resuscitative care for life threatening conditions and/or emergent situations in the hospital.

B. Professional Development

The CRNA will assist with orientation of new CRNA staff.

The CRNA will assist with orientation and instruction of student nurse anesthetists and other anesthesia personnel.

Th! e CRNA will assist in the evaluation of these professional per! sonnel and report to the Director of Clinical Education according to policy stated by the Department of Anesthesiology.

All presentations under the auspices of Children’s Anesthesia Associates, Inc., and the Department of Anesthesiology require peer review and approval of the Corporation and the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology.

The CRNA attends educational offerings and in services to maintain and expand clinical knowledge base.

The CRNA is eligible for or a member in good standing of the AANA and meets continuing education standards in accordance with AANA requirements as measured by employee testimony.

The CRNA implement anesthesia practice changes based on research findings and current standards by demonstrating the use of accepted anesthesia technology and pharmacology.

The CRNA participates in research projects as directed.

C. Work Habits

The CRNA works when scheduled according to the terms p! rescribed by the Corporation in accordance with the Employment Agreement. Clinical assignments are completed in a timely fashion.

The CRNA agrees to perform tasks as required or directed by the Corporation.

The CRNA develops and maintains a positive work climate and demonstrates overall adherence to the team concept of anesthetic care.

The CRNA identifies strategies to increase the effective use of resources.

D. Conduct

The CRNA demonstrates professional and ethical conduct and compassion in all patient interactions and demonstrates respect and concern for all members of the health care team.

Other information:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

The CRNA must be a graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing with current licensure as an RN in the state of Ohio and the CRNA must be a graduate of an accredited school of nurse anesthesia with eligibility for membership with the AANA and c! ompletion of the NBCRNA national examination.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL! REQUIREMENTS

Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement. Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit.

Standing/walking - Frequently
