Position Summary: This position is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the department setting. Communicates with physicians/Nurse Manager/co-workers, as appropria! te about changes in patient’s clinical condition including abnormal assessment findings, results of diagnostic studies, and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Utilizes independent judgment regarding priority of work, changes in patient condition, evaluating patient's response to care and emergency situations. Strives for excellence in clinical practice, patient/family teaching and communication skills. Participates in performance improvement activities of the department and daily management of infection prevention and control activities.

Primary Functions: 1. Performs age related patient assessments and reassessments as per department policy. This includes neonates, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient population. Able to assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Recognizes, interprets, documents and communicates significant information (Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation) necessary for quality patient care and related patient information.

2. Performs hourly rounding on all patients. Offers labor support to women and their families. Facilitates epidural placement when needed. Assists the anesthesiologist/CRNA with placement and monitors patient following epidural placement.

3. Performs IV placement in neonates. Provides phototherapy and assists with circumcisions. Assists and supports new moms with breastfeeding and is current on breastfeeding techniques. Performs Newborn Hearing Screens, Newborn Metabolic Testing, Car Seat testing, Accuchecks and he! al sticks on newborns.

4. Collaborates with the patient, famil! y and other health team members to provide humane, caring nursing care that promotes healing.

5. Administers medications following the five medication rights. Reduces the potential for medication errors.

6. Identifies individualized, expected outcomes for the patient. Creates plans of care that prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes and that are appropriate to the age and development level of the patient.

7. Formulates a teaching plan based on the plan of care. Educates the patient and family regarding the plan of care, expected outcomes, and identified learning needs. Assists with discharge phone calls.

8. Maintains knowledge of the laws and rules regulating nursing. Perform nursing practice within the legal scope and to the level of licensure. Keeps current with practice of nursing and professional development. Learns new procedures, use of equipment, safety information, etc. to provide a safe patient care environment.

9. Treats patients and families with dignity and respect. Ensures confidentiality of patient records. Interacts professionally with patients and families and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.

Other Duties As Assigned:
Accepts other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:Education:
Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Ohio required
BLS certification within 30 days of employment is required.
NRP course completion card within 6 months of employment is required.
STABLE course completion card within 6 months of hire required.
ACLS certification within 6 months of employment is preferred.

Experience:
One (1) year recent clinical experience strongly preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Successful completion of appropriate competencies for assigned area. Basic knowledge of computers. Must be able to read, write! and communicate effectively in English. Demonstrates flexibility, abil! ity to multi-task and effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
