An RN possessing basic concepts and principles of routine nursing care, who utilizes the nursing process in providing perioperative care after extended training in the Operating Room. Must possess the skills of observation, assessment, anticipation, logic, communication, interpretation of diagnostic data, and evaluation. Must provide care that is in accordance with current MVH standards. Is responsible for total nursing care of the patient during the intraoperative phase. Must understand the concepts of aseptic technique, methods of sterilization and disinfection, types of anesthesia, and principles of positioning. Assists surgical team and anesthesiologist as needed. Must have technical understanding of a wide variety of basic and specialty O.R. equipment.
DIMENSIONS:
Open Heart/Thoracic/Vascular
Will be introduced to "Laser". Following proper orientation, will be expected to operate all lasers safely and efficiently.
Must show versatility and capability in all specialty areas following in individual orientation period.
Must be self-directed and competent in his/her specialty area following an extension of orientation period.
An ongoing process of self-review, education, and adaptation.
The Perioperative Nurse is responsible for seeking proper review in all aspects of job description that he/she feels are weak points in their individual clinical practice.
May be required to teach and/or mentor.
Must show the ability to respond rapidly and effectively in emergency situations.
Must have working knowledge of Instrumentation and Central Services following proper orientation.
Must have basic working knowledge of computer system (i.e., entering labs, ordering supplies, etc.)
May function as scrub nurse a well as circulating nurse.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
2 years OR experience required. One year level one Trauma experience required
This position requires a Registered Nurse, currently licensed in the State of Ohio. A minimum of one year clinical experience is preferred. If flexibility of hours: may be requested to work OR occasional Saturdays or stay over to help staff finish a case. Current CPR certification is required. Must maintain 12 CEUs per year. This position does not include call, holidays or OR scheduled weekend hours.
